CULT TV CLASSICS TO HAUNT HORROR CHANNEL IN ITALY
International broadcaster, Chello Zone, announced today that it has acquired the eerie cult TV classics Twin Peaks, War of the Worlds and Highlander for its dedicated Horror Channel in Italy.
The three critically acclaimed series have been acquired from CBS Studios International and will premiere on Horror Channel from June 2012.
Launched in September 2011, Horror Channel is Italy’s first dedicated horror channel and broadcasts to over 4.5 million subscribers on the territory’s Sky platform. The channel has gone from strength to strength, pulling in a 40% audience increase since its launch.
Adam Robinson, Director of Programming for Chello Zone, commented: “Since its launch in Italy last year, Horror Channel has proven to be a huge hit with fans. These first class TV series complement the channel’s line up of must-see horror movies and director’s night specials, and keep Horror Channel the number one destination for viewers in search of chilling entertainment. It’s only fitting that Horror Channel premiere the digitally remastered Twin Peaks in Italy, and in celebration of the 21st anniversary of the original broadcast in the country.”
Twin Peaks has been a huge international success since it first aired in 1990 (1991 in Italy), and turned Kyle MacLachlan and Lara Flynn Boyle into household names. Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, the acclaimed mysterious series follows FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (MacLachlan) as he investigates the brutal murder of beautiful and popular teenager Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) and the devastating consequences the murder has on the seemingly quiet town. Both series of Twin Peaks will be shown digitally remastered for the very first time in the territory, on Horror Channel Italy from June.
War of the Worlds, which will be shown from July, is the sci-fi horror series starring Jared Martin and Lynda Mason Green. After thirty years in captivity alien creatures begin a new invasion – stealing human bodies for a new war of the worlds. Hell-bent on conquering Earth and destroying human civilisation after decades in hibernation, the only thing standing in the Martians’ way is a small band of resistance fighters, determined to protect mankind.
Highlander is the highly-acclaimed fantasy adventure series inspired by the film of the same name. Born over four hundred years ago in the Scottish Highlands, Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) belongs to a race of mysterious beings who have roamed the planet for centuries, known as Immortals. Destined to travel around the world until fate brings the prophesied “Gathering”, Immortals must constantly face each other in combat to the death. The winner takes his enemy’s head and with it, his power. Horror Channel Italy will show all three series of Highlander from September.
